Happy 50th birthday to us
Date stamps on the original conveyance shows 18th March 1974 as the date of completion for the purchase of the site as we know it today. The Scout Association paid the sum of £1870 to acquire the site and the conveyance was signed by Robert Baden-Powell, 3rd Baron Baden-Powell, Chief Scout’s Commissioner and the founders grandson.
Over last Autumn we ran a competition to design a commemorative badge, and the winning designs have now been made, along with a flag which will be flown on site this year.
To celebrate, some of our volunteers were joined by representatives from our Districts on site yesterday to raise this flag for the first time, with the flag being raised by Janet Voce, designer of the original Oaks badge and judge of the 50th birthday badge. Tea and cake was also involved.
The badge is now available to purchase from the site shop, £1.50 each
